Rear Beams - Any Irish Out There?

Recommended Posts

Rupertfinch

Greeting those from the little island to the left of Great Britain. What i'm trying to work out is, is there anyone from Northern Ireland or the Republic out there? If so, isn't David Healy great?

Seriously...

Have any of you any experiences of refurbishing rear beams? Or does anyone know anyone (preferably in N.I. who can do this?) It's one of many things on my ever lengthening list of things to do - or I could just say bugger it and buy the silver 1.9 in the autotrader with 10,000 miles less than mine (and no abs system to give me nightmares).

cheers

A chap I know who does the hillclimbs sent his to West Midlands Motorsport on a pallet. I don't know how much research he did regarding stuff here but WMMS claim to have done over a hundred refurbs and have all the bits in stock.

I had my TBs and ARB done by Willie McVicker at Drumbo and he replaced some bits too, I was too lazy to ask what though. Worth a try.

There used to be a company around the Coleraine area that supplied recon rear axles for 405's on an exchange basis . My Dad had to fit one on his 405 a few years back . It was starting to go again when he was selling the car so I can't vouch for the quality of their work .

BTW , do you know of any breakers in NI with a decent stock of gti parts ? Only found out that the place in Portglenone is now a car auction !

I've sourced parts from WMMS and they've always been very helpful. They've never tried the hard sales with me and always have talked with me as though i'm a normal human being, not an idiot as i've found with some other companies. So i'd definitely recommend west midland motorsport.

Turbo7379 - that sounds like a fabled land. Never even knew that there was a breaker in Portglenone, so guess my sense of loss is not as great as yours. Besides, you can't put auld rotten parts on a gti, she deserves shiney new things (if only these words were true).

There's a breakers in Downpatrick which has a good stock of motors, have bought 206 stuff from them, but dunno if there are enough 205gtis in the country to provide any great amount of spares (most I see around this side of the country are on UK mainland plates - as is mine, can't be arsed with a NI plate 'til i find something that ends in 205 lying in a scrappy with a V5 in the glovebox). Then again vanity plates are a little bit gay.
