Over-turn?

I've just put the car back together after rebuilding the gearbox & fitting a Quaife atb. In doing it, I've obviously had to remove the wishbone ball joint/ hub nut & I also removed all sub-frame bolts to gain more access. These have been loctited back in & it all seems nice & tight.

 

The car drives well apart from attacking right hand turns, when it seems to over-turn in (doesn't happen on left handers at all). It doesn't feel like over-steer, more a rapid transfer of weight at the rear meaning I have to correct steering input. It feels fine with less aggressive inputs.

 

The wishbone bushes (poly-race) seem fine as do the ball-joints & tie-rods. The rear beam was fully rebuilt by Wurzel less than 2 years/ 5k miles ago & hasn't been disturbed & there was no feeling like this before. The engine mounts all appear good. The full spec of the car is in my sig.

 

I appreciate that I will need to get used to the diff, but has anyone got any bright ideas?

check your tracking? last time this happened to me it was a loose bottom balljoint bolt with a bit of play.

yeah as inferno says. they are prone for ovaling the hole in the bottom of the hub where the ball joint goes into. So the ball joint can be asolutley fine when you look at it off, but it's actually play in the hole (oo er!) that is the problem. As it's right hand turns you say are affected, jack up the passenger side front, and pull the rock the wheel towards your body then in towards the car. When my hub went i had about an inch movement in and out

Cheers for the replies. Pretty much confirms my suspicions.

 

I've a spare in the garage, albeit with a 205 driveshaft attached with a stuck nut! Looks like I'll have to get a local garage to get it off for me.

Did you replace the balljoint bolt through the hub?

 

I've had these wear before & cause what sounds like the exact thing you describe.

 

Worst case is an ovalled hub balljoint hole.

No Graham, I didn't. Local dealer won't have them in stock either. Do you recall if you can get them separately, or do they come as a complete wishbone bolt package? I guess they didn't look the best, so I need to change them.

 

Clutch is fine though; thanks for your previous post & suggestion that I might have missed out the pin :huh:

You can get the bolt from any bolt stockists. I usually get mine from my local Ripon Farm Services for about 50p each with a new locknut. The dealers might not stock the (shouldered) correct bolt but they should have some in stock that will do the job (fully threaded). Ideally you want an M10 with a 40mm shoulder iirc but an M10 with a 30mm will be better than a fully threaded bolt.

 

I don't think they come with the wishbone bush kit, you only get the ones for going through those bushes.

I had this on mine a few weeks ago , only on right handers as you state.

 

My issues was the poly race bushes, i replaced with OE peugoet and problem solved .

Passenger side front hub now replaced with spare & new bolts on the balljoint/ hub; ovalled side bolt was absolutely knackered & in much worse condition than when I put it back on a week earlier. Bolts were in stock at the dealer ;) & @ £4 the pair.

 

Seems to be back to normal now; thanks for the help.

50p for two HT bolts with new nyloc nuts at my local Ripon Farm Services.
