Putting Engine And 'box Back Together

Recommended Posts

SimonJ

Hi,

When I took the gearbox off the engine the release bearing fell onto the floor before I got a chance to see what way it went on. I'm sure it's pretty obvious and indeed I'm 95% sure but it would be a disaster to get wrong. Does anyone have any pictures? I'm useless at describing or interpreting mech terms so pics would be great but a description in laymans terms would be good too,

Cheers,

Simon

you cant get it wrong, slide it over the input shaft up to the release fork and press, sometimes helps to wiggle the release fork but you will know when it locates.

Thanks. So the domed bit points towards the engine and the two sticky-out bits sort of locate around the fork and you can swivel the bearing about 5 to 10 degrees on the shaft when it's located? And there is only one piece to the bearing? I just ask in case a bit rolled off under the bench.

Its just a one piece bearing & it fits like you said above. It should locate properly on the fork lugs though. To hook it on have the forks as if the clutch pedal is down & it should hook over the fork & stay in place. I use a cable tie now to hold the pedal still while i lift the box back on.

How do you mean;

you can swivel the bearing about 5 to 10 degrees on the shaft when it's located?

Graham.

wobbly u mean? think it just depends on the type of bearing. I had an older metal one that wobbled but a plastic clip type one that was solid

both were fine tho
