Where Is This Wire Supposed To Go?

Recommended Posts

Guest Puddlez

I've done a search and couldnt find any good pictures showing where this wire is supposed to go! Can someone help me! My STOP light comes on after i start the car and i think this could be why! :)

Heres the pics;

The yellow wire to the right, its not connected to anything?

Yellow one going off to the right (it says 4 on the actual block?)

I cant see anywhere for it to plug to? Is it just a ground cable? If it is can i just ground it to the Inlet manifold?

1) Not sure

2) STOP light will only come on if OIL pressure or water temp warning lights are on. Given that it comes on when you start it then my vote would be oil pressure. What does the gauge say?

The oil pressure and water temp lights come on the the stop light and always have.. My brother says its a 205 thing (Both his and my dads both did it and my diesel 205's water level light was always on even though I had plenty of water) but given my car isnt running right I think there is something actually causing the light to be on this time. Oil pressure is normally very high which I think isnt good but my boyfriend said it was better higher then lower?

I have a few other problems with the car with idling and starter issues but we were hoping to find out where this wire leads to see if it makes any difference whatsoever. This is my 1st GTi and so much more complicated then my diesel which never had a problem in the 2 years I owned it :)

hi,looking at the haynes manual it either goes to alternator or oil pressure warning light.is there any numbers or letters on the wire? also could it have come out of the black tape covering the rest of the wires and come unplugged from something else?

hope this helps

It's not surposed to be connected, just like a lot of connections under the bonnet of a 205.

Yes that wire indeed is meant to be floating about looking useless, it's not part of the sensor loom anyway.

There has to be a problem if those lights are on, read up on the brown multiplug and check over all the wires from it.

Ok thanks for the help guys, will have a look about the engine bay today and see what else we can find. Odd to have a wire that does nothing :S

If oil pressure + stop + water temp lights are on then it is reporting low oil pressure. Given that the oil pressure gauge does not agree with this then the most likely thing is a faulty oil pressure warning sensor.

First test would be to disconnect this and see if all the lights go out. If they do then there is a sensor fault. If not then it is a wiring fault.

P.S. Excessively high oil pressure isn't generally a problem.

I used to get the stop light coming on occasionally on my old diesel 205 & simply wiggling the connector on the sender fixed it. Never had it on any of my GTi's or the TD though.

The wire on the coil plug is a spare thats unused & an easy way to test if there is 12v's getting to the coil if you are having starting or sparking issues. :)

Graham.
