Aftermarket Guages...

Recommended Posts

Hi all, you're help on this would be great please.

1. I've seen a few different tacho's that i like such as those from Elliot, Revtech and VDO. Now firstly I don't want to put up with little clocks and so I'd like to ask those who use aftermarket guages whether or not, if I took out the standard dials, if I could fit say Elliot's 100m tacho or VDO's 5" tacho as opposed to Revtech's 80mm tacho?

2. Because I'm anal, I'd like all guages to be from the same manufacturer and so I'd like to know which is better for a race inspired/100% track car only - mechanical or electronic and why? And as i've spent £££'s to date putting this together, should I ignore electronic for mechanical or vice versa when it comes to understanding what's going on with my engine and guages?

Thanks

Longfield

Defo worth while changing the tacho

I used to have an SPA combined speedom tacho and shift lights..worked very well but rather expensive.

I've got a 2nd hand stack this time that i'll use with a cheep motorbike speedo.

I'd always use eletric gauges

Well, would you look at that, bang on 80mm! Dont forget though you will have to

take the bezel of the new gauge into account, unless you dismantle.

So dont think you will get a 100mm one in there, although I have no problem reading

my 52mm boost gauge :(

Yes the Spa stuff is very nice indeed with a price tag to match. The Acewell stuff I looked into aswell, seems very good value :)

Sonofsam thanks for that, out of interest [if it's not too much trouble, what's the vertical measurement [going on the basis that you've measured the horizontal axis]. I ask as i'me considering taking out the whole binicle and starting from scratch and won't be limited to just taking out the old speedo and tach etc.

thanks
