jim205GTI 3 Posted April 22, 2007 Right since installing the mi the guages haven't worked only the fuel one but thats a different loom. Now following the wires from the two brown multiplugs they lead in to the fusebox/ glove box area into another set of brown plugs which then go off some where. Going by the colour of some of the wires these look like they go to the instrument panel. Is there any reason for why these wires go to the fusebox area? Was just wondering if i removed the wires in the fusebox area and just had the wire straight from the loom to the instrument panel is there any reason why this would not work??? I have done a few tests of earthing it but not too sucessful I should also mention that the guage in the top left hand corner , oil pressure i believe does get a reading... just no red light .... so i hope i got the two sensors the right way round in wiring them Cheers Jim
jim205GTI 3 Posted April 23, 2007 (edited) TIme for the idiot award to be handed out!! When i originally did the sensor and earthing it test i got a mate to sit in the car and watch the guages.......... what i didn't realise i think to ask him was the ignition switched on ....... so of course last night all the guages flickered etc DOH!! Least know i knows it some of the sensors ....... but also a new alternator as that light flicked on when earthed but no when plugged into the alternator Whats even worse is that i can't find the box of parts i kept of the old engine just hope parent hasn't thrown it out Edited April 23, 2007 by jim205GTI
Casanova 0 Posted April 25, 2007 Sorry to hijack but I have some similar questions that don't seem to merit a fresh post. 1. Coolant level sensor - where is it and how does it work? My light flickers. 2. Coolant temperature - this is a funny one. The warning light (and hence the STOP light) are permanently on, even when the gauge is working and reading a low temperature. The gauge only works intermittently though. There is a plug not connected to anything that comes out of the coolant temp sensor in the rad, but can't find anything for it to plug into, and besides the gauge works most of the time anyway so am muchly confused. Help appreciated! 3. Extra gauges. I've bought a set of GTi clocks that obviously have oil pressure and temperature gauges in. My XS doesn't have these gauges at the moment, only an oil pressure light. What's involved in making these work - I assume I need to get some senders and tap them into the engine somewhere?
