Overheating At Anything Above 70.

Recommended Posts

Im not too sure if this is normal for the 205. How hot are they supposed to run?

My car is 1,9 on 1,6 box, so you can get the revs up quite high most of the time. All water pipes look new, radiators new, water pump presumabley new given everything else is.

If I drive down a motorway at a steady 60 the water temp is striaght up on the guage. If I take it to 70 though its at 3/4. If I go on to 80 its nearly pointing at the warning light!

Obviously a little concerning.

No leaks, and the heater works fine.

Fine sat in traffic

I think the fans coming on and off (was a couple of months back for definite)

The car is running no oil cooler and the oil temp guage isnt working so I dont know what the oil is doing?!

Is this normal temp for prolonged use at these speeds! (Cant see it being!) Short of flushing the system and rebleeding is there anything I else I should be checking? (I'll be looking at the thermostat as well)

Any ideas people before I start draining it?

sounds like a blocked/partially blocked rad, or lots of cooling fins missing. had the same problem 3 times now and a rad fixed it, over 50mph in a 1.6.

Thats to high imo.

Best drain the system, check the thermostat works OK & then refill & re-bleed the system.

Your oil temp guage can really only be the wire is disconnected imo.

Exactly the same probs as my new 1.6!

Ive ordered new nissen rad/thermo stat/temp sensors/metal coolent pipe and im hoping that will do the trick along with a flush + fill and bleed. Fingers crossed

As for the oil temp mines conected at the sump, where else could the problem lie?

Righto - the rads pretty new (like under a year) But I will back flush it to see if it is gummed up at all.

The oil temp is connected at the sump but I suspect it may come down toa dodgy conection at the brown connector under battery... (one of those jobs on the list of things to do that never gets done!)

Thanks guys, pretty much as I thought - but good to get a second opnion

possible that you have a slight blow in the head and under high load its struggling to de-gass the coolant. Id go with graham first though and make sure its not just airlocked or old blocked coolant.

Could be a small blockage in the rad. I had one before which just over heated all the time. Found out only the top 1/3 of the rad was hot, bottom 2/3 stone cold. Back flushing didnt help it at all. This was an old radiator so you shouldnt have a problem with age but it could be a blockage causing a similar problem and it wont budge. Suggest you carefully(!!!) check yours out when hot but try not to get burnt!

best way ive found to flush the system was to fill with neat screen wash! make sure to rinse properly though, im unsure if its a good idea either tbh, but it worked for me:P
