Rear End?

im having a problem on my gti, and im sure its getting worse to be honest. the problem is that when i turn right the backend feels loose and very twitchy like it wants to brake away. its very noticable when it happens.

when turning left the car seems fine, fully under control and grips. i have recently purchased, solid mounts and nylon bushes for the beam, but am yet to fit them, my first responce was that the original standard mounts are worn.

just wanted to know has anyone else had this problem before i get my hopes up on the mounts being the cure only to be dissapointed.

regards tombo

I had a similar problem on my car once & suspected a bent rear stub axle as the beam on it was given to me from a car that had been in a crash although mine felt wrong on left handers

When I swapped the beam I found the rear sandwich mount was split in two so this could've been the problem just like yours.

They are easy to check, get under the car with a decent large screwdriver or pry bar & try moving the rear brace.

If its solid then this isn't the problem & it might be the radius arm is loose in the tube due to worn out bearings.

Siezed beam on the passenger side, completely knackered beam mounts, or excessive play in the passenger front hub/wishbone would be my first ports of call.... assuming you've checked the tyres, naturally.

well thanks guys, ive checked the radius arms and the move so they are not seized, and the wheels seem to be straight, so i would imagine the radius arm bearings are fine.

i think im going to take a look at the mounts and wishbones as the tyres are all new too.

will keep you posted.
