Beam Upgrade

Recommended Posts

Alan_M

After twatting 'Ring armco over Easter and bending a stub axle on my 309 beam, I have decided that a rebuild is required. This coincided with the find of a 306 GTi6 in my local scrappy, of which the engine was removed rather promptly and is now residing in my garage :P

A quick call to Anthony had me ripping out the ARB too, ready for a milling to fit to my beam.

A few questions,

1. What size TB's do peeps recommend? 23mm?

2. I'd like to increase the neg camber on the beam, either through the SBC kit, ZX arms or the 306 GTi6 arms if they are still there. I've read that the 306 arms are longer, likewise the SBC kit extends width which would surely cause problems on a 309 beam on a 205? Zx Volcane arms are hard to find in the scrappy though.......these would be preferred.

Cars about to get some major wonga splashed on it. James_R is to blame for this, as after going out in his at the Ring, I have a new target to aim for :D

Thanks

Ive got 306 S16 arms on a 309 beam and had to cut the lip off the body kit to stop it catching but now its fine  .

For the road/track 21 bars are a good allrounder or track the 23's then come into there own, If your running a 309 beam using the SBC kit willl have your wheel out even further so you could go back to the 205 beam in that area,

On the trailing arm's there's a old post ont he forum with the 306 and ZX Options, I;m sure someone will post a link

It doesnt have to be ZX volcane arms, mine is just running base model ZX arms and these are exactly the same as the ZX ones as far as camber and toe goes. Autodata agrees with me aswell, all ZX are listed with the same rear geometry.

 sorry alan :P

If you're getting custom bars I'd be inlined to go back to 205 width.

306 arms have more toe in I believe, sandy is your man on this.

I was dead chuffed with my set up, but I'm going to run a 27mm ARB next time out and another 80BHP so dragging the nose about should be more entertaining.

Get it ready for June

Yes, but you need to swap the stub axles and hubs over - with ZX Volcane its a straight swap as they're already disk braked.

I was gonna say, James's car's an easy target, it's missing 8v's!! :P

Is it the same with 306's then? (ie. base models run the same camber and toe)

Afore mentioned link to arm specs

I run 16v ZX arms and a 24mm (IIRC!?) ARB on 205 beam. Im looking for a nice set of 21mm TBs when cash allows (currently still on the 19mm items). Im very happy with the setup and increased turn in is noticed.

As for the negative camber kits, I believe its a shimmed stub axle.
