Harness Anchor Points

Recommended Posts

24seven

I only plan on having 1 seat in my 205 (maybe the standard passenger seat and belt to, but that doesn't matter. the back end is completely stripped out. I've got a 4 point harness to go in and was wondering about using teh standard rear seatbelt anchor points for the 2 upper straps of my harness? I'd planned on using the factory front belt points either side of the seat for the side straps. If it makes a difference, teh seat is a cobra monaco and is FIA approved.

Rear beam mounts is a better idea to use as anchor points.,

Im ditching my harnesses soon and going back to seatbelts, less hassle for a road car.

Use the front seat belt mounting point by the door, for the other side you will need to drill the tunnel and use a backing plate with a captive nut (available FIA approved for a few pounds).

For the rear use the rear seat belt anchor point and then drill another hole and use another plate with a captive nut.

The backing plates need to be on the outside of the shell and preferably tack welded.

DON'T fasten the rear straps of the harness in the floor. It should be sitting approx parallell with the ground (or max 15-20 degrees leaning downwards) or you risk severe compression of your spine in case of a collision!

The max recommended angle is 45Degrees as in the diag. Fixing the harnesses to the rear seatbelt mounting point gives a fairly shallow angle and NO problems. Of course the best is to have harness bars on the cage.

The accompanying text to the picture is unfortunately in swedish, actually it's the rules from the swedish motorsport association. But it states that 10 degrees is a preferred maximum angle and as you say 45 degrees is the maximum angle. I would however be very careful as an incorrect mounted harness, seat or for example a badly welded rollcage would cause really nasty injuries

My main point is that these things are worth thinking twice about before going ahead!
