Guest Scrapy Posted April 18, 2007 Hi, just wondering if anyone can help me. I have a 1992-(march) 1.6 but unsure to what kind of engine it is. Have just bought a Gunsons fault finder in halfrauds but when i came to use it i havent a clue where to plug it in. Been looking for ages. Have done a search but still none the wiser. Thanks. jackherer 543 Posted April 18, 2007 It doesn't have any sort of diagnostics, the ECU isn't really a computer, its just some analog circuitry in a metal box.
Ryan 99 Posted April 18, 2007 The box for those Gunsons testers wrongly claims it will work on any 205. Only the late 1.9 with a catalytic converter has a proper diagnostic socket.
Emmy Seize 8 Posted April 20, 2007 (edited) It doesn't have any sort of diagnostics, the ECU isn't really a computer, its just some analog circuitry in a metal box. Unless you were given a carburettor version of the GTI in the UK, this is not true. Even the 1984 1.6 cars did have a diagnostic socket. Ok, so you might not be able to do checks as with modern OBD II cars, but you could read the fault codes nevertheless. If you happen to have the original Peugeot tester, you can even wire this in between the ECU and the loom and do some live-checks while driving. Ok, so you might not be able to do checks as with modern OBD II cars, but you could read the fault codes nevertheless. The ECU does not put out any fault codes. The diagnostic socket on the Jetronic engines is only connected to the TDC sensor on the flywheel.
