Fitting Immobiliser

Recommended Posts

right, been fitting an immobiliser today, got all of the power and accessory and ground connections in, and that leaves the two wire loops to go into the circuits to immobilise them. i am looking to cut the fuel pump and the starter motor ideally, however, the haynes manual seems to be a bit flaky with its wiring diagrams and the wire numbers. so does anybody know which are the easiest wires to cut/numbers and their location? the car is a 1989 1.6 gti. the immobiliser is a toad sterling touch key. any advice would be greatly appreciated as i am a bit screwed at the moment lol

fuel pump is good to find

open fuse box and you will see loads of big conectors with lots of wires not on board, but above in the spagettie, there is 1 single conector in the mass of wires.. this is the fuel pump conection

the wires are thick and i think white with black conectors.. male and female

conect 1 wire to 1 side of the cut loop and same on other.

the starter is one of the conectors on the fuse board above the relays to the left of the board to find it, pull it out and try to start it when you have the right 1 it wont turn over. it will we the thick wire in the block

and then do the same with the loop wires... cut and connect

fuel pump wires are on the tachymetric (sp?) relay under the dash. iirc its a white wire.

the starter motor wire is on the brown plug under the dash to the left of the steering column. thats a big blue wire.

as for wire numbers, i dont have my haynes to hand at the min, but if your still stuck i will see if i can post them up tommorow.

thanks guys, there is one concern i have, the immobiliser wiring is very thin gauge, we reckon only good to carry 5A realistically, although the instructions claim the internal relays on the immobiliser can carry 18A, do you know if this will be an issue with the currents running through the suggested wires to cut?

thanks

it should be ok i would of thought, but if your worried about it just replace the wire with some heavier gauge stuff.

I wouldnt bother with starter wire as a car can be bumped of if they put power on the fuel pump. Id put it with ecu and fuel pump, that way they wont get it running without removing the immobiliser.

Hack into the two thick wires that lead from the tachy relay to the fuel pump to cut the fuel supply. Then go into the ignition loom by following the wires that lead from the ignition barrel and splice into those.

but if you think about it :)

if you were a car thief where would you start the car from

the ign wires... if all the immob wires are connected to it or close to.. it it make his job of stealing you motor very easy...

thats why i plumb in the wires as far away from there as i can... thus making it difficult for the slimey little toad to get my pride and joy
