benlilly 0 Posted April 16, 2007 Anyone know how this should measure on a good oil pump? I can get a 0.3mm feeler between the teeth of the gears on mine.
dch1950 37 1 Cars Posted April 18, 2007 Any takers? The main wear of an oil pump is in the bearing of the driven shaft and thus end float should be the major criterion for assessing overall wear.(use a straight edge across the face of the pump) gear wear is a lesser factor but measurement is taken between the pump body and the tip of a gear tooth (take 2 diametrically opposite readings and compare) a difference of more than 4 thou (.1mm) says the bearings are duff.Your reading between adjacent teeth is not the right one. Hope this helps. Dave
benlilly 0 Posted April 18, 2007 Hi Dave, Thanks for the advice. Endfloat is 0.1mm. Pump body to tip of gear teeth is 0.06mm. Ben
