Weeping Power Steering Union

Recommended Posts

Rob_the_Sparky

My car failed the MOT on this (amongst other things) despite me not noticing any loss of fluid. MOT man said it was minor but anything was enough for a fail on the power steering.

Any suggestions what to do? Is there anything replacable in these unions or is the only choice "do it up tighter"?

Rob

just a do it up tighter jobbie, not too tight of course, and a bit of copper grease on the threads and where the union turns and clamps the pipe helps a lot.

The PAS on my mum's old 309 GTI weeped a little, close to the ram. Unfortunately it was too far gone and the actual ram had to be replaced.

There is a small bush that can fail and cause a small weep. You may be lucky enough to have caught it in time.

If it comes to that then I think it would be time to remove the PAS!

Mine was leaking at the same place. I think the threaded unit part has worn out, as know amount of o rings help. Ive had enough and am binning PAS :)
