Fitting An Oil Heat Exchanger To A Late Be3 Box?

Recommended Posts

brianthemagical

as above, can it be done? my engine only has the 2 end mounts on a t the mo and no head so that might be the problem but it is hitting the rad. as said it is a late (98 i think) be3 box. the bell housing is a bit different but i'm not sure if it sticks out more in an inconvenient direction. thanks for any help.

and 1.9s with PAS? I think there should be a bracket on these that mounts the filter in the space under the starter

thanks for the replies. it's the engine oil/coolant heat exchanger. i know how it fits on to the original box but i've got a 306 be3, from 98 i think, on the car and bell housing casting is different. as the engine isn't completely in at the mo i don't know whether it will stay fouling on the rad or if there is another way to use it. i want to keep it as i usually make short journeys. thanks agian.

Best have a look on the front of your box for two M7 threaded holes on the lower front face which are there on the 205 Be3 box.

use a 306/309 unit, or even a 405 one, then you dont need to bolt anything to the gearbox.

You do for the remote oil water exchanger, the filter housing is bolted to the box & this saves chopping pipes around to get it all to fit, plus it keeps the oil filter to rad clearance.

I've got a 405 Be3 box in my car & the threaded holes for the remote oil / water exchanger are there.

i've now got the 3 engine mounts in and there isn't enough clearance between the gearbox and the rad. i have found the holes on the new box but, to the best of my ability with one box in the car, i think the late box does stick out more than the origional.

were there different heat exchangers on differnet models or is there some other alternative as i mainly use the car for short journeys?

thanks.
