Broken Bolt Headache! Please Please Help!

Recommended Posts

Sorry this is on my Almera, the AOC forum is nowhere near as busy as this and the principle is exactly the same for all cars...

Right the front calipers are held on with a similar system to the 1.9 GTi calipers. yoke bolts to the hub, caliper slider bolts to the yoke.

Undoing a yoke bolt and it sheared clean off. Soaked the other all day in release agent and it still pigging snapped.

So...

Yoke is off the car and one bolt succesfully drilled out without any damage to the threads, the other is a bit mangled but im sure I will get it out in the morning. However the only bolts I could get at such short notice are not the right thread pitch. It is infintesimally different but forcing it in will cross it I reckon.

Any ideas how I can fix this? Could I retap it with a larger bolt maybe? I have to get back to Exeter tomorrow, can't wait for Nissan parts to open on Monday only to tell me theyre £10 for each bolt which wouldn't surprise me.

If it is re-tappable does anyone in Southampton have a tap set I could borrow tomorrow morning?

Cheers for any ideas guys.

Veero

only way id consider fixing this is a hub from a scrappy, unless the other bolt comes out nicely, thats a long drive home.

try and find a b n q or breakers tomorow for bolts/hub

Well the other snapped too.

Drilled one out, other has mangled all my drill bits, made of kryptonite or something, now Im properly stuck in Southampton. Don't ever buy a Nissan, they seem to bolts in totally dry and make them of cheese...
