Ticking Noise?

Recommended Posts

There is a ticking noise coming from the drivers side (under the dash) that gets faster with speed. Any ideas?

does it get faster with engine speed or just vehicle speed? tachy relay is under dash at drivers side along with ecu, all other relays are in glovebox or engine bay. Could it be from ouitside but your hearing it through the dash?

it seems to increase with vehicle speed. Could be coming from the outside but sounds more like the inside?

Does it come from the top of the dash? It sounds quite like the speedo cable to me. This comes up through the bulkhead and plugs into the speedo at the back of the dash.

Does your speedo needle wobble about a bit? They usually do when the cable is dry or needs replaced.

Just picked up my GTi this morning and its making a noise similar to this, and the speedo is wobbling like mad.

Is it an easy fix?

Its fiddly, but not impossible. One of those jobs thats a pain in the arse the first time, but fairly straight forward there after. :)

The worst bit is removing the top of the dashboard - its quite easy to break it.

Cheers for that, think I'll wait till the car is standing when I swap engines, might be a bit easier then

Mine does this too, thought it was because my outer driveshaft boot had split but I swapped the driveshaft outer and it is still there. Glad to know that it is nothing too serious.
