Coil Wiring

Recommended Posts

boldy205

Hi, i am in the process of fitting a MI into my J plate 1.9 using 8v ignition. I have the manifold mounted coil with a multi plug into it, i am using carbs and would like to know where these wires go as i would prefer to use the normal inner wing mounted coil so need to know what wires are what please.

I have two very fat green wires, two medium thickness reds, two medium thickness yellows and a small grey.

i have done a search and found wire number 112 poss goes to the rev counter, and that a green wire goes to the ECU to tell it when or how much to fuel.

any help is great thanks!

Matt.

as far as i can gather from searching on here:

u have positive feed (switched ignition), a rev counter, an earth and one to the ign amp

the red wires go to positive (ignition switched)

wire no: 112 is rev counter (not sure what colour that one is)

"Standard coil on my 89 8v gti has 2 wide connectors(+pos) and two narrow(-neg) connectors.

on the +pos side, 12v feed(red) coming into the coil, with the oppisite +pos connector going off to feed the ign module under the coil.

On the -neg side is a ground(yellow) and a tacho(thin grey) feed wire."

im not sure about the green ones but my car caught fire when i twisted two green coil wires together so dont do that

I don't understand this either as each side of the coil is the same connection so both wires are connected together anyway?

I dont know but mine fired up today using just wires 112 and CC4 from the 8v coil. but that is wired up to the mi16 coil on top of engine and amp too! So i just taped up the other wires so they cant touch anything!
