Guest Jonny Martin Posted April 11, 2007 Righto, Hi all, I got into my 1.6Gti earlier to move it to get the 306 out, got in, started no problem, moved the cars round but left the gti were i had parked it. Later when i came to move it back i found that it would not start! when i put the key in and turn it the stop light ect comes on as usual, but then when i turn it the final click i can hear a click from the engine bay then nothing, as if there is no battery (ie the engine is 'dead') i dont know if this has anything to do with it but after i had moved the car in the first place the key seemed almost stuck in the ignition for a second or two when i tried to pull it out. If anyone could give me any advice it would be a massive help as its driving me nuts! Many thanks Jonny.
Richie-Van-GTi 71 2 Cars Posted April 11, 2007 starter motor is sticking, the click is the solenoid not fully engaging. Try sticking a wire direct between the tarter solenoid and battery live, that should fire it up if its the normal problems. Sometimes tapping the starter with a bar or something with the key turned will engage it, also rock the car in gear then try again.
