Power Steering Rack - Lower Coupling

Recommended Posts

Guest midlife-pug

I have a 91 205 1.9 gti with manual steering. As I'm getting on a bit I'm converting it to PAS.

I've sourced all the PAS gubbins I need but on getting my car up on the ramps discovered that the lower coupling on my steering column is the square spline compared to the circular spline on the power rack.

Thankfully my local scrappy has a 309 GTI with the circular spline lower coupling so I can get my hands on this.

I'm aware the manual rack had these different spline couplings between ph1 and ph2 but can anyone tell me if the PAS rack came with the later square coupling as I've yet to see any like this?

Thanks, Gary.

I think your find that the PAS setup needs a shorter lower steering column. Not sure about the shape, I'll have a look at mine when I get a chance.

I did the conversion a couple of years ago, so if you need any advice I should be able to help.

Mad.

I think the PAS columns/racks are all circular splines but there is some doubt.

Have a look at this recent thread of mine, I've posted the links to the parts CD so you can see just how many different types there are...

Thanks for that. I read your thread when it started but didn't realise how far it had progressed.

Obtained the one from the 309 Gti today so will just have to see how it goes when I have a go fitting it.

Its not like Peugeot to have so many answers to the same question!!!
