Gavin Waddell 18 Posted April 6, 2007 I upgraded to disk brakes on gti, was originally a 1.6 with drums. Now il be running braided lines with the 1.9 brake compensators, cant use a breake bias valve due to swiss laws. do i still have to split the system diaganoly as for a 1.9 or can i just leave it split front back as with the 1.6? i am also running 307 brakes up front. cheers gavin
Emmy Seize 8 Posted April 7, 2007 Is that a legal or a technical question ? Technically there is nothing wrong with converting to front/rear split. You could even do with only one compensator, then. I don´t know what swiss mot requirements are, though. A brake bias valve would do nicely instead of the compensators, by the way.
pug_ham 244 3 Cars Posted April 7, 2007 Using the standard 1.6 front rear split system with the single comjpensator should be OK but with mine on standard discs all round I used to find that if i jumped on the brake on track I would lock a rear wheel easily. I have now changed my technique after a few people that hillclimb mentioned that if you don't stamp on the brakes first try you can get the full braking force by a gentler initial prod of the pedal followed by full pressure application.
