Spiky 37 Posted April 4, 2007 ok, my orginal sump is battered and fooked so fitting a gti-6 one i assume it's a straight fit? do i take off the spacer? and just fit the sump to the block? also sealing is there a gasket? or just sealant?
Miles 331 1 Cars Posted April 4, 2007 It does bolt on, You'll need shorter sump bolts which should come with the sump and just use good qulaity sealent for the join, And yes the block stiffener (spacer) comes off.
Ahl 4 Posted April 4, 2007 Surely its not a good idea to remove the stiffener plate on the alloy engine? The crank goes out of true easily enough with the plate on. I think I'd opt to keep the plate and just fill it with more oil too.

Miles 331 1 Cars Posted April 5, 2007 The Alloy sump takes some of the strength of the plate but on a normal 8v engine I;ve never had a problem not running it, the 405 and BX didn't have this fitted either and 5bhp shy and more torque or in the real world I expect the same power in both. I'll see if I have any bolt's kicking around to measure

Spiky 37 Posted April 5, 2007 ok got my new gasket and sealer, i assume i put sealer on both sides of the gasket?
Miles 331 1 Cars Posted April 5, 2007 I don;t use gasket's as sealent does the job just fine is the right one, Or the gasket goes on dry and compress's up slowly so it's a case of checking the bolt's a couple of times before oil then again once up to temp and cooled down
Spiky 37 Posted April 5, 2007 what torque setting? or just do up enough so to speak
