Halfords Flexible Vinyl Paint

Recommended Posts

GLPoomobile

Plenty has been written about using this stuff to refurbish exterior trim, but I don't think anyone has yet commented on whether it lasts. The question has been asked before too.

So, can anyone who has done their trim with this stuff and had it on the car for 6 months or more comment? I want to know if provides a lasting finish (by penetrating the surface and dying the plastic presumably) or if it eventually just flakes off like any other bumper paint.

And I'm referring to the Flexible Vinyl paint that you can apply directly after cleaning the surface, NOT Halfords Bumper Paint which is different and needs a plastic primer.

Thanks

Had mine on for 4 months, and all good.

Its all about what you use to remove the old dirt on the trim in the first place.

But i know SuperJosh, paintguy etc have had it on a while :D

I just did my trim with this stuff yesterday, so I'd be interested too.

I took the trim off and scrubbed it with some soapy water then rinsed it off and gave it a wipe over with some white spirit.

That's exactly how I preped mine. Mine's been good for well over a year now :D Would definitely recommend it.

Most of my interior trim is painted with it, as I was too tight to buy a Ph2 interior, and it still looks perfect (when I bother to clean it :D )

Exterior trims are also looking great too. The picture below was taken just over a year after they'd been painted , although they had just been treated to a wipe over wth some bumper snot:

It has actually flaked off on one of the trims since then :D, but it was one that had been painted with something prior to me getting the car, and I think that's caused the problem.

I did mine about 6 months ago with this and I'm reasonably pleased with it.

The only place it has flaked off is on the rear arch trim on the bit where it joins the bumper, it's the bit that is exposed to all the spray from the rear wheels, the 309 beam doesn't help as the wheels poke out from under the trim a bit more.

All the rest looks fine though.

Mines all flaked off and needs redoing after about 12-18months. This time i'm gonna use laquer afterwards to hopefully seal it in...
