Setting Timing Up On 1.9 8v

Recommended Posts

ok i know which way is retard and advance

if i advance a little i get a touch of pinking when i first hit the throttle but not when hard accelerating, so only happens a for a split second, and if going up a hill at 30ish in 5th....

now is it ok to keep advancing until i get to the point just before it pinks under full load???

hope that makes sense???

.....Yes, the idea is you advance the timing untill it pinks and then you retard it a little to stop it pinking.

Like he said, but going up a hill at 30mph in 5th IS high load!

You want to adjust it so that it doesn't pink in this situation. Its the best you can do unless you fit fully mappable ignition, better than wrecking your engine anyway, as any prolonged pinking can do.
