Turbo7379 3 Posted April 2, 2007 The warning light for the particulate filter on my Brother-in-laws 307 HDI had came on & he was getting quoted £200 for a new one plus fitting ! After reading up on the subject we decided to try cleaning it out ourselves . I understand that the dealers in France offer this service but over here we have to buy an exchange unit . So on Saturday afternoon I removed the filter & spent 30 mins back flushing it with a steamwasher set at 90 deg but a low pressure . A lot of stuff came out of the filter similiar to ashes & it seems to have done the trick as the warning light hasn't came on since .
Hilgie 16 2 Cars Posted April 2, 2007 true but the whole idea of this filter is that it is disposed by a dealer as chemical waste that's why the whole unit is replaced... now the dirty stuff is back into the environment.....
Jrod 7 Posted April 2, 2007 Still it's greener than the 205.

Nah, it's only well-cooked carbon ash and environmentally no more unfriendly than a Rich Tea biscuit If it were disposed of as chemical waste, chances are it'll be incinerated and then to land-fill as ash. In fact precisely what the particulate filter has already done...
205007 12 Posted April 2, 2007 is it a late model hdi? if so its probably run out of particulate fluid and will be blocked again in about 3 weeks there is a programme on the peugeot diagnostic system which the car performs to clean itself, basically it revs its nuts off for about 10 mins and job done! Turbo7379 3 Posted April 3, 2007 The car had run out of fuel additive , probably why the filter blocked . It cost him £170 to get the tank refilled & the ecu reset at the stealers . I have him warned to check the tank in another 40k & refill it as you can buy the refill kit for around £60 and do it yourself . true but the whole idea of this filter is that it is disposed by a dealer as chemical waste that's why the whole unit is replaced... now the dirty stuff is back into the environment..... When you buy a filter at the dealers you are just buying someone elses filter that has been sent back to France to be 'reconditioned' ie washed . You have to leave in your old filter on an exchange basis . These filters are a 'recon' unit , costing around £200 , a new one is in excess of £500 . So it isn't an environmental hazard to wash this out , Peugeot in mainland Europe actually offered this service at their dealers . I was told by a Peugeot Technician who works at a dealers in Ireland that they sometimes wash out the filters themselves using the same method as me ! Each litre is £25 + vat and you will need the peugeot diagnostic machine to reset the counters + clear fault down. Don't think you could do it yourself for £60 unless you only add 2 litres and hope the light goes out
