What's Causing The Vague Turn In On Corners?

Recommended Posts

Guest Ade C

I was out for a test drive today prior to going to Donington on the 28th and noticed that there's too much play in the steering wheel when turning into corners. Basically, rather than feeling sharp and responsive it feels vague and there's a delay before the steering bites and turns in, which is a bit disconcerting to say the least!

Any idea what causes this? Do you think it's the track rod ends?

Thanks,

Adrian

Could be track rod ends, but I would suspect knackered wishbone bushes, which are often responsible for vague steering.

Could well be ball joints too.

you would hear the ball joints clunking if they were that worn i think.

Wishbone bushes will show up if you accealrate hard then back off in a straight line the car will pull to the side (qute violently if they are bad)

i would say steering rack.

Mine never clunked when they were worn.

I've changed countless 205GTI wishbones due to worn balljoints and only one has ever clunked.
