Both Driveshafts Out At Once?

Recommended Posts

Guest edcotic

so i've been working on the principle that both shafts cannot be removed from the diff at the same time (without a tool to pin the diff)

Just read the excellent Gearbox Swapping Guide on the forum:

http://www.205gtidrivers.com/articles.php?...=s-clutchchange

which suggests removing both shafts with no mention of potential damage to the diff!?!?

Any thoughts?

thanks

Ed

This for the early base model 205s which have the XV/XW/XY series of engines where the transmission is below the engine and both share the same oil. If you're removing a BE box from a GTI, you will be fine.

on early be boxes there was no location of something in the diff (cant remember which bit) but if you took both shafts out something dropped out of place and you'd have to take it apart to get it back into place, it was modified quite early on IIRC so it shouldnt be a problem.
