Alan_M 66 1 Cars Posted March 29, 2007 Anybody got any tips on torqueing these bolts up? I've got some new wishbones with new poly bushes in them, but when I come round to torqueing that back bolt to the Pug 78Ib.Ft setting, I get stuck. How do you do it? Yes, I have lowered the car to the ground when tightening too, and have tried jacking up under the balljoint of the wishbone. Any tips then?

Alan_M 66 1 Cars Posted March 29, 2007 Its that, its actually getting something in there to torque them! We managed it before when the car was built from scratch but I can't remember for the life of me how!
DaveK 0 Posted March 29, 2007 yeah i just used ramps, didnt bother using a troque wrench tho, good ole right arm i was right under the car when tightening them, couldnt get to them any other way
pacey205 2 Posted March 29, 2007 I just do them up tight by hand as well with the car on the floor. Thought about using ramps but surely the idea is to have the weight of the car on them and if your on ramps then alot of it is shifted rearwards ? Need a pit really but mother wont let me dig one in the garage for some reason !!! Michael
pug_ham 244 3 Cars Posted March 29, 2007 If you really want to torque the up, (on ramps will be fine) use a decent extension & an universal joint so it can be angled out past the front mount etc. I just do them by hand though, 78lbft isn't that much really. Graham. Yeah, realise that now. Ended up snapping the back bolt in two by excessive tightening. Ended up using jack under the balljoint to level the arm, and managed to get a torque wrench in there after undoing the TRE from the hub. Sorted, just got the rack and column to swop now
