e30m3 0 Posted March 28, 2007 (edited) I 'm having a few problems with my 1.6 GTI, I took out the old 150,000 mile engine and replaced it with what is supposed to be a fully rebuilt engine, seam sound enough The trouble is it seams to be running very rich (to the point that the exhaust gases smell of fuel and hurt your eyes!) Can anone tell be ehat components have an invluence on how rich the car runs? is it just the airflow meter, injectors and ecu? or are there other things worth looking at. I had it running last night but it started to run very lumpy and eventually kept satlling, the plugs a wet when i take them out. Richie-Van-GTi 71 2 Cars Posted March 28, 2007 ecu temp sensor would be prime suspect, swap it with one out your old engine .
Anthony 1,003 Posted March 28, 2007 Fuel pressure regulator too.
Andrwn8304 0 Posted March 28, 2007 Try putting the old throttle body and air flow meter back on, if it was ok then in theory it should be ok again.
e30m3 0 Posted April 3, 2007 Well i've just had a look at it, I had a spare fuel pressure regulator so decided to try this first. I haven't run the car in three days and when taking the old pressure regulator off there was still alot of fuel pressure behind it spraying fuel all up the garage wall and inner wing. Is this normal? Hopefully not meening the regulators at fault. Bit reluctant to run it at the moment as theres a fairt amount of fuel all over the engine bay.
