Spiky 37 Posted March 27, 2007 would this cause the engine to not tick over and pop a little?
Mikey G 3 Posted March 27, 2007 (edited) Cant see it making it not tick over but it will definatly make it pop. Edited March 27, 2007 by Mikey G
Spiky 37 Posted March 27, 2007 hi matey welcome was ticking over fine, then i changed afm and now it dont after a run, and yeah i put the old afm back on and no ir didn't fix it if i rev 2k and over there;s no missfire, but if i hold it around 1000 it seems to missfire, also if i blip the throttle i get and backfire from the exhaust ?? and once i heard it in the engine bay, which then made me look and i fouind the cracked manifold
Mikey G 3 Posted March 27, 2007 Hi Spiky Sounds like you may have an air leak somewhere.
Spiky 37 Posted March 27, 2007 well i just checked and all looks ok, it's cooled down a bit, and was better, then when it got hot it;s crappy again
Mikey G 3 Posted March 27, 2007 You would be surprised at the number of places i have found air leaks on these. Injector seals, inlet gasket and i also found the bolt hole on the inlet manifold that the oil filler bolts to broken through causing a nice big leak on the number 1 inlet tract. Check the colours of the plugs, see if any of them stand out different to the rest. Also if you changed the AFM make sure you put the pipes for the S.A.D and breather back on the right way around. Mikey G 3 Posted March 28, 2007 well i think i found it a bolt that holds the oil breather/filler had come out, seems to tick over ok now Thats the one i mentioned above, found it on 2 seperate cars now. The hole should be sealed but people have been known to put longer bolts in them causing the hole to break through to the inlet. As for the exhaust bolts, get it hot and try it that way. Grim.Badger 15 Posted March 29, 2007 thats the good news, bad news how the fook do i get 20yr old exhaust manifdol studs out??? The studs aren't normally that difficult, except cylinder 1 lower has caused me problems on two engines. Split the nuts off with a chisel, I've handily got a 1ft one which is good for getting the lower ones off. Once the nuts are off take the manifold off and remove the studs with either a stud remover tool or two nuts tightened against each other. Once the manifold is off you may want to get some penetrating oil on the studs (NOT WD40) just in case but they were easy enough to shift on my 110k engine, except cylinder 1 lower which was snapped by the last owner. Peugeot exhaust gaskets are meant to be the best and aren't that expensive. It's also worth getting new studs and Peugeot sell fancy copper 13mm nuts as replacements for the old ones Be careful though as the dealer may want you to buy whole bags (20) of the studs and nuts. matty_gti 20 Posted March 30, 2007 Im goin to replace my manifold soon as on No 1. tube i have a huge crack going all the way around, lol, makes a very VERY loud ticking noise untill warmed up. Is there anything i can put on it that could seal it for the time being?. And regarding what you said about two nuts togther and removing the studs......how? Grim.Badger 15 Posted March 30, 2007 And regarding what you said about two nuts togther and removing the studs......how? Put two 13mm nuts on the stud, tighten them against each other, then try and undo the lower one. Because the upper nut will stop it rotating on the stud it should rotate the stud instead. I hope that makes sense
matty_gti 20 Posted March 30, 2007 i have a 4 branch will be ebaying this week if interested magnex i believe ooo, with the four branch manifold will it fit the standerd system or do have to use the rest of the 'manifolds make' system?....i.e a magnex manifold onto a magnex centre pipe and back box?
