Mikey G 3 Posted March 27, 2007 I'm sure its the XU10J4R seen in the 306 XSi and 406 cars. 135 bhp.
welshpug 1,657 Posted March 27, 2007 (edited) nope! a different engine again, EW10J4, 134 bhp and 140lbft Bore × stroke 85.00mm × 88.00mm 1997 cc 10.80:1 compression ratio Edited March 27, 2007 by welshpug
Mikey G 3 Posted March 27, 2007 Interesting, never knew that. Ive never had anything to do with the 206 gti so havent looked that closely at the engine, but at first glance of open bonnets ive seen it looks like another evolution on an XU lump. This seems to be a bit of an odd engine in the range then, why when they have a set of perfectly good 2 litre 16v engines already in the range? is it because the 206 was originaly designed for the TU series? Then again the early diesels were 1.9 XUD's from what i gather.
Ryan 99 Posted March 27, 2007 (edited) The XU is an old engine design (first used in 1981 I believe) so it was due to be replaced. A few years back Peugeot started replacing the XU/XUD with the EW/DW in all their new models. Edited March 27, 2007 by Ryan
Miles 331 1 Cars Posted March 27, 2007 It's a much better engine in all area's, yes the ports are smaller in std form but it's not a bad thing as the Mi16 etc are rather large, Add T/B's to one of those engine's and you do get around 190bhp without anything else, Also gone back to a all Alooy design and they don;t suffer from oil surge
Guest ben19gti Posted March 27, 2007 What do u mean its a better engine allround? Apart from oil surge issues , What sort of a job is the head gasket like to do? , Anything i should watch out for an how much can it be skimmed before it mess's with what it is standard. Miles 331 1 Cars Posted March 27, 2007 You don;t want to skim too much off at all really, It doesn't gain much at all, The engines a modern design to meet the emmision's and MPG rating's but they do respond well to T/B's and headwork, The Cox's 206 Race car's produce some good power. I'm getting hold of one of these engine's soon so I can look into thing's but until then I can't comment too much
Sandy 191 Posted March 28, 2007 Seems to be a fair few with bottom end failures about, rods mostly.
Hilgie 16 2 Cars Posted March 28, 2007 It's got dry steel liners cast in the aluminium block which is just great. Alle 206s and later models did not have the XU engine anymore...basically it stopped with the 406. All newer cars (206, 407, late 406s, 307s) feature the EW/DW engines. They are a pig to fit to an XU engined car as none of the enginemounts line up correctly.
