ste996 0 Posted March 27, 2007 While i was getting some power steering fluid from Halfrauds yesterday there was some Wynn's oil leak stopping fluid on the shelf by the p.s. fluid. Was wondering if anyone has used this and did it work. Would it be like putting rad weld in the rad and make a nasty mess and have any long term effects. Or should i try and find the leak and do a proper fix.
pug_ham 244 3 Cars Posted March 27, 2007 Its a waste of time & can do more harm than good imo. Find the leak & do a proper fix. Graham.
Grim.Badger 15 Posted March 27, 2007 There aren't enough places that the XU engine can leak from imo to justify using anything like this. Anything that can seal leaks will in its very nature cause a gloopy mess. Is yours leaking? If so where from?
ste996 0 Posted March 27, 2007 Thought so. Only good for making Mr Wynn's wallet bigger.

Not to sure, Definately not the oil pressure switch have had that changed, When i look underneath it seems to be coming from the back of the engine, running onto the back of the sump and over some of the suspension arms. There is a black plastic cover on the side below the cam chain cover that had oil on it (whats this), Cleaned as much as i could off wednesday and it was there again yesterday. Could have flung off the belt though to get there.
Grim.Badger 15 Posted March 27, 2007 (edited) There is a seal underneath the camshaft pulley and also the valve cover gasket that could be leaking onto there. Another one that leaks down the back of the engine is the dizzy seal. Cambelt approx £10, Camshaft seal approx £10, Valve Cover Gasket approx £10, dizzy seal 90p. If its the cam seal that's under the cam pulley I'd expect oil to be under the covers so whip off the top cover and have a look. It's most likely to be the valve cover gasket and dizzy seal given where the oil is. Only get OE gaskets and seals, aftermarket ones just aren't as well made and aren't normally any cheaper either. ste996 0 Posted March 27, 2007 Thanks for the advice, will have a look at those places and give them a rubover/clean up with a clean rag. Then sort from there. are you refering to the rocker cover gasket when you say "valve cover gasket" Cheers Steve.
Phil H 16 Posted March 27, 2007 I thought those additives rejuvinate the oil seals, rather than solidify.
ste996 0 Posted March 27, 2007 Thats what it said on the tin and got me thinking about putting some in. But after reading what grim.badger has said about where it could poss be leaking from i will be changing a few of those gaskets. Just a thought , would none of those gaskets come in a gasket set for a rebuilt engine, Had it re-built in july and i'm abit annoyed that it's leaking. It's been back once and had the oil pressure switch changed and a lot of it has stopped since then so i would assume it's coming from the areas mentioned earlier. welshpug 1,657 Posted March 27, 2007 all the aforementioned seals I think come in a "head kit" minus the h/g and bolts, so it depends wether they just stuck a new h/g on or did it properly wand replaced the lot.
lagonda 42 Posted March 27, 2007 If the engine's only recently been overhauled it might just be that you need to re-tighten the valve (yes same as a rocker cover but it isn't a rocker cover because there aren't any rockers!) cover bolts. They are only lightly torqued up and do need retightening once the engine has run a few miles. Don't overtighten them though.
