inferno 1 Posted March 26, 2007 As im possibly near completion of phase one of my turbo project, im left with a few bits to find for it and one of them is the pump for charge cooling. so id like to ask other opinions if yourve had anything to do with chargecooling previously. reason for charge cooling is not wanting to fit a front mount, and ive always found the water in mates cars to be cold still after a good thrashing. also the 405 t16 used it so power shouldnt be hindered. so far i have a suberu legacy heat exchanger, modded to fit. and a small alloy moterbike rad that will fit in the space of the fan with an oil cooler. most charge cooler kits for big money tend to have tiny exchangers, and tiny rads. is this really all it needs to be? my idea was to intruduce a large header tank, that can be filled with a litre or 2 of ice when needed, but other kits have tiny headers too. would i be better off fitting a larger cooler rad like phyr ~(james) did for those that remember his turbo?its on the main page somewhere, he used the same exchanger unit. and lastly, could u use a fuel pump from say a xr3i or a bx16v as a cheep water pump or would it damage the pump? My thoughts are that having the exchanger as large as possible would increase it's ability to exchange heat and to that end I'm going to mod a 2wd cossie IC. Like the motorbike rad idea, might nick that For the water pump, I'm gonna use a bilge pump from a boat which run on 12v and can move alot of water about. Doesn't need to be able to generate any massive pressure, just move the water through the exchangers. They're cheap on e-bay too Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
