Track Width - 1.9gti & Base Models The Same?

Recommended Posts

Ive been doing a bit of research and see that the base model hubs are 1.9 offset and allow the 307 brake conversion and also allow me to keep my current 1.6 shafts :D

...but I presume I also loose the wider 1.6GTi track width as well with these hubs and drop down to the 1.9 width of 1393mm? Could someone confirm?

Also whilst on this subject of track widths and just out of interests sake really, I saw that the 1.6GTi hubs with 309 wishbones would give an even greater front track width of 1449mm! But the 309 GTi driveshaft wont fit the 1.6 hub...is there no 309 shaft that will suffice at all? Say from a lower model?

Recent Track widths topic.

I assume if you fit the base model front hubs to keep the 1.6 driveshafts you will drop to a similar front track width as a base model rather than a 1.9.

Not sure if the 309 driveshafts from a 1.3/1.4 model are the same size hub end as the 1.6 GTi or base model 205 (never tried) but if you have a friendly local motor factors or decent scrapyard locally you could easily find out. Explain to the motor fcators that if they fit you hub you will very likely buy them but if they don't it'll need returning & see if they'll get one in.

Graham.

Thanks Graham, well it still comes back to running spacers/specilist discs/1.9 hubs & shafts if I want the 307 callipers then as I dont want to decrease the front track width to that extent.

I'll enquire about driveshafts at my local factors...
