Enfield 0 Posted March 26, 2007 Put a carb from an XS on my rallye and it ran beautifully till today that is. This morning after it had warmed up, so no choke it was running fine. Then I had to stop again because of traffic and it almost stalled so I put the choke on. Played about with the choke and throttle and it idled normally again. So fast forward till now and my dad has adjusted the idle screw for me and basically it was hunting, revs all over the shop. Kept playing with the screw and it's better but it's running lumpy. Please help me before I drive this f*cking car into a tree!
stu_woac 1 Posted March 26, 2007 air leak some where
Enfield 0 Posted March 26, 2007 I've blocked off one of the holes from the inlet manifold. The tube usually goes from that to air filter. It's at the front.
johnnyboy666 195 1 Cars Posted March 26, 2007 same thing happened to mine when i put a k&n on it, i blocked up the hole in the end of that tube and it wouldnt idle, unblocked the hole and taped a bit of foam on the end to make a filter and now shes fine
Enfield 0 Posted March 26, 2007 But it ran fine yesterday, I can't see why it would suddenly do this. And also there was water leaking from the top of the expansion tank! I did remove the exhaust heatshield though because it was rattling. I'm going to put that back on now aswell as the tube for the inlet manifold.

Mikey S 29 1 Cars Posted March 26, 2007 sounds like a bit of carb freeze mate. put a hot air pipe to the filter.
Enfield 0 Posted March 26, 2007 Fuel filter was changed yesterday!
Enfield 0 Posted March 27, 2007 Swapped the carb back over to the original one and it's running fine...apart from that high pitched noise! This one doesn't like to start when it's warm...have to put accelerator flat to floor for it to catch. There's an air leak somewhere but all the pipes and stuff are absolutely fine as there was no leak with the other carb and same pipes. Any ideas?
stu_woac 1 Posted March 27, 2007 the whisle noise is the top plate being lose do up the four srew on the top where the top plate meet the rest of the carb your see what I mean when you look at the carb the other carb may need a service

Enfield 0 Posted March 28, 2007 Yes mate. You are a diamond! Cheers! Car still feels like it's wanting to stall though. It did this morning but then I do have a K&N filter on and it was reasonably cold. I'm not going to touch the idle screw though!
stu_woac 1 Posted March 28, 2007 (edited) cool if it wants to stall coz of the k&n theres no harm in opening the idle srew up alittle at the back of the carb to let alittle more fuel in and bring back down the revs with the ajuster on the side I helps stop the cold stalls abit with the k&n but will need reajusting in the summer and for the mot LOL so yeah dont touch lol p.s. now that plate is been loose wants it does like loosening up again Edited March 28, 2007 by stu_woac
