306 Gti-6 Rear Brakes

Recommended Posts

Been offered a 306 gti-6 beam for next to nothing and just wondered If I could use the parts to convert my 1.6 beam into discs?

I know they use the same calipers but do they use the same stub axles, hubs etc?

unsure about the stub pin itself but the rest will go straight on.

Is it possible to just swap the whole trailing arm and shaft as I thought they were identical?

Gti6's have 1.2 degree's of negative camber, which is in the arms themselves iirc?

Does anyone know if the stub axle will fit in a 205 trailing arm?!

Don't want to have to take it apart myself to find out! :)

Why when I have 2 pefectly good ones in my recently rebuilt beam... :D

I'd rather just swap the stub axles etc over.

Cos you will have to buy new rear hubs and bearings, you wont get the rear hubs off the stubs in one piece

Right, I'll leave it then or will try and get an arm in good condition for the other side.

Just to add im running ZX 16v(same as 306) trailing arms and shafts and they defo fit with no worries as already mentioned. I also stripped and rebuilt the disc hubs with new grease etc and it wasnt a hard job and the hub pins themselves looked very much the same as the 1.9 ones I had lieing next to it....but then I never thought to measure them to check for certain. Id be suprised to hear they were different though!

Id say get hold of a replacement shaft and go for it.

Strange, on the 205/309 with rear disc brakes there's no problem just pulling the hubs/bearings off with a puller.

I've done it several times, only problem may be that you might get dirt into the bearing, so I usually take out all the rollerballs and clean them and clean inside the bearing too, then regrease and assemble.
