S16 Poor Running (idle) And Wont Rev

Recommended Posts

Any help will be appreciated, but im still stuck with my S16 and need to mot it to get on the road. I had the head done and starts fine But idles ok sometimes but soon as i go to touch the throttle it cuts out. I had it fault checked and it was down on the map sensor. ( map sensor in the ecu)

I have changed the ecu, but there seems to be something not right with the pipework coming off the vacuum on the ecu and the (egr valve i think its called). So if the pipework aint right i suppose the map sensor wont read right??? and the round clear plastic thing on the side of the battery box is missing therefore there is a pipe thats drawing in air. Has anyone got any close up pics of this section of the engine bay so i know where all the corrrect pipes go? ( The guy that put the head back on is a cowboy)

Or if theres is anyone in the south wales area that has a s16 or a 405 2.0 mi that is willing to let me have a look at their engines so i know what pipe goes where..... thanks

going from memory from the last s16 conversion I done.

theres a pipe from inlet mani to the plastic thing on battery tray then to ecu.

Theres a pipe from inlet mani to solenoid to charcoal canister.

Theres a pipe from inlet mani to solenoid to avac diaghrams.

Then theres the brake servo hose.

if you dont have the charcoal canister just leave the solenoid on it so it doesnt kick up any faults and blank the pipe off.

solenoid for avac from memory is a 3 portt solenoid with only 2 pipes connected, one to mani and one to avac, other vents to atmosphere.

If you have any pipes other than these you need to work out tell me where they come from and I'll rack my brain and try work it out.

PS, you need that little plastic bit for ecu, it keeps the pressure in range of ecu map sensor or something :)

Thanks for that, the car is making me pull my hair out!........ i think i will order that clear plastic thing from pug. the pipe from my ecu goes nto the EGR valve thing?? if im right in saying that what its called. and one of the steel pipe that comes from the front plastic manifold and branches off at a 45 degree angle doesnt have a pipe on it? is that the one that is meant to go to the plastic thing on the batt box then ecu?

I will try and get a pic later!

mine did this when the map sensior's tooob perished and fell off the intake fanimold, mine also doesnt have anything between the ecu and the fanimold, cured it by shortening the pipe to a decent section and putting it back on.

Does the pipe go from the ecu to the stubby steel pipe that comes off the inlet manifold?

which stubby steel pipe?

mine goes to the middle of the runners on the front of the manifold, where the plenum is.

the ecu doesnt go to the egr valve, it goes to the intake mani.
