DaveK 0 Posted March 25, 2007 Unfortunately my car is a K plate car registered on 30/8/1992. Im assuming the information below that i have taken off a website is accurate. Lookin at this it seems that K plates onward need considerably less emissions than those before K. Im building a rally car and so will need to be able to make the most of the emissions. Should i be looking at gettin a pre K car so i can tune it higher (even a B or C reg model)? Or will the emissions on a standard 1600cc (tuned as far as regs allow) be ok without a CAT for the lower emissions car? First used between 1/8/75 and 31/7/86 - meter test CO <=4.5%, HC<=1200ppm. First used between 1/8/86 and 31/7/92 - meter test CO<=3.5%, HC<=1200ppm. First used between 1/8/92 and 31/7/94 - advanced emission test (CAT) if its running on petrol when presented, to the vehicle specific limits usually around CO<=0.3%, HC<=200ppm and Lambda 0.97 - 1.03. Remember from 1st August 2001 a basic emission test will be carried out initially.
boombang 2 Posted March 25, 2007 As I remember, the emmissions is based on the older of the two out of shell and engine - but you'd have to prove the age of the engine.
DaveK 0 Posted March 27, 2007 can anyone else confirm this?
Ryan 99 Posted March 27, 2007 (edited) What if the vehicle is fitted with a different engine? If the vehicle is fitted with a different engine from the one it was originally fitted with, then for emission purposes you should test to the limits determined by either the vehicle type or engine – whichever is older. For example, if you are presented with a 1995 car fitted with a 1991 engine of any make, you should test it according to the age of the engine. In this case, you need to do a non-CAT test, with limits of 3.5% CO and 1,200ppm HC. It’s up to the owner to prove the age of the engine or vehicle, for example with a letter from the manufacturer." DaveK 0 Posted March 27, 2007 New question.....are all the 1.6 engines the same, i.e made before 1st august 1992 and dont req a cat? If they are the same that just solves all my dramas! cant remember ever seeing a K plated 1.
jackherer 543 Posted March 27, 2007 all 1.6s are pre 1992 manufacture and cat-free but some are registered after that on a K plate nonetheless.
