Phase 1 Tailgate V's Phase 1.5 Version?

Is there a difference between the two tailgates?

 

I have an 89 phase 1.6; I recently bought a tailgate to replace my existing one (the spoiler is not screwed on so I think it is a phase 1 one).

The fixings between the tailgate and the hinge seem different, with two bolts fixing it to the hinge instead of one on my phase 1.5 version.

I know that I have probably answered my own question with a yes but I thought it was worth checking that I have not missed anything.

If there are different is there a way of getting around the problem?

Im not 100% sure on the year diffference, but its hinge bolt amounts are different (although swappable) and the spoiler.

 

But not looked into it deeply to be 100%

phase one are different, the top is very narrow (1") and the phase 1.5/2 are about 3" at the top.

I bought a Ph1.5 tailgate from an F reg car with the hinges missing. The tailgate had two bolt holes per hinge.

 

Unfortunately, my H reg (1990) had hinges with a single bolt hole I just drilled extra holes in the hinges as they had indentations on them for where the holes should be (but be warned if you are doing this, they are not exact. I drilled mine oversize so that I could adjust the positioning to line up the tailgate OK).

 

EDIT: just to add, my H reg is right at the end of Ph1.5 (It's 95% Ph2 parts, but still the odd 1 or 2 Ph1.5 parts here and there), so both of our Ph1.5 cars have single bolt hinges fitted. The tailgate I bought must also have been a Ph1.5 car since it was an F reg and had the correct spoiler, so going by your situation Atari Boy, I'm totally baffled! What the hell where Pug doing?

Thanks for the guidance chaps, very useful and it confirms that am not being a bit dim.

 

I think I will see if I can bodge it so that it works, you never know.....
