Mi16 Exhaust Manifold

Recommended Posts

mi16nut

My standard Mi exhaust manifold is blowing so I need to remove it; not the best job ever as many years ago I had a stud snap on an 8V.

Has anyone used a dremel to cut the nuts off as a matter of course instead of trying to undo them to avoid snapping? Any other hints?

When it comes to fitting the replacement, what gasket should be used? I've done a search & some seem to recommend a Loctite instant gasket (can't remember which). Can a standard Pug gasket be used with a smear of instant either side to be doubly sure? Are the gasket & nuts still available from the main dealer?

Cheers,

Mark.

personaly i fend it best to heat the nust up first with a torch and then use a 6 sided socket as its less lightly to round the bolds, as for the stud i think its just bad luck lol, i normaly use the satndard gasket with a bit of exhaust sealent on either side of it, id imagine liquid gasket will be the same though, and just torque them up evanly and ur sorted

The 16v use's a 13mm head nut so no where as bad as the older 8v ones with the crappy 10mm head's, It's a nasty job out of the car as some you can only get a swan neck ring spanner on, I'd buy some new studs but you can only get the S16 ones now from pug which do fit fine, Nut's I'd get from a factor's as I hate the pug one's

I've just taken mine out as i need to get buy a re-angled one. The 13mm bolts are alot better that the 8v one's. However, i was lucky, because as i was loosening off the nuts, the studs actually came out at the same time!!! This made it easier to get the manifold off the engine, as mine is in the car it was a pain in the butt tryin to get to the top nuts though!

Bump:

I have a reangled Mi16 exhaust manifold for sale if you desire one. It was on my car, working fine until I bought a complete Maniflow system. So I know it fits, is professionally done and is available for its new owner.
