Exhaust Wrap

I've been looking around for some wrap, but I'm not sure whether to go for a premium brand e.g. Cool It

Thermo Tec Generation 2 Copper, which 'claims' to be that much better than your average wrap. Or should I just go for the cheapest available?

And has anyone used a Hi-temp protective wrap paint to protect it? Are they any good?

I'm at a loss to understand what heat wrap does for the engine, can any one tell me where the heat is directed to (hope not back into the head) and why is the stuff so expensive?

itll stay in the zorst... ie less heat soak under the bonnet and hotter faster flowing gas to the turbo... im going with some of the ubber expensive copper stuff as the local motersport place has a load in and owes me a faver ;)

Riiiiiight, and here's me thinking that the turbo needed to be kept as cool as poss so as to lower the induction temperature. ;)

 

You learn something every day don't you :P

the hot side needs as hot air as possible as thatll make for faster gas flow, and therefore faster turbine rotation! ull see this side well wrapped on some bigger cars. but yes the cool compressor side wont be wrapped and should be kept as cool as possible for denser charge air and lower intake temps. the downpipe can be wrapped too... basicly keeping all the heat in the pipes that start off hot, will allow the induction pipes to stay cool.

:wacko: Might need your advice when we build our race car with a turbo, didn't realise it was so complicated :blink:

increases the thermal efficency of the engine

 

less energy lost = more power available
