Help ! What Kind Of Distributor Can I Use ? ( For Carbs )

Recommended Posts

andy0075

Hi,

finally i have finished my 8V carbs conversion but the ignition

doesn't work.

Originally it is a Motronic GTI, so i changed the ignition system

to the one from a Jetronic.

I bought a used distributor from an 1.9 CTI, but i got

no spark. I already tryed another coil and another ignition

amplifier module.

Can it really be the CTI distributor ? Do i need the one from

an 1.9 GTI ? If yes, why ? Can i also use the one

from an 1.6 GTI ?

If not, how can i test the distributor if it's broken or not ?

I hope you can help me, because the carbs look so great, and i can't

try and hear them. :)

cheers, Andy

I think you will get engine fire with one of the dizzy's if everything is connected right. All you need is signal from dizzy to ign module and + and earth.

For best result with carbs, it's a nice upgrade to contact H&H ignition and ask them to make a custom for you, and give info about carbs/cam profile/CR and so.

Better timing than a std one.

PM me if you need wire draw.

I used the wire draw of the carbs conversion article on the main site.

There are three cables coming out of the distributor. Red, green and black.

The black one is going to earth/body.

When i switch the ignition on then i have +12V on the ignition amplifier module,

and on the + from the coil. So that is right.

But i can meassure only +1,8V at the red wire which is going to the distributor.

Is that ok ?

I think the green one is for the signal, isn't it ?

Can i meassure here something when the starter turns the engine ?

sine the ignition amp draws its power via the coil just make sure you have a live between amp and coil then feed a direct wire to the coil with a known 12v and then earth of the other side.

I wired the plus direct from the battery to the ignition amplifier module and coil for

testing. The results are the same.

@Richie-Van-GTi

What do you mean with "then earth of the other side" ?
