Pugspares Exhaust Problems,

Recommended Posts

duncs

right my car runs a pugspares 4 - 2 manifold then utilises a y pipe to mate onto the rest of the exhaust the problem is it keeps blowing from the two pipes on the y bracket its down to two things

1. excessive engine movement, iv replaced all engine and box mounts with bbm stuff but its still doing it!

2. the clamps that are clamping the two parts together seem very light duty to me but i cant find any other clamps that will fit round due to the clearance beetween the two pipes

so would it be wise to mate it to the manifold then put a couple of welds on aswell as the clamps or is this a bad idea?

Have you tried using some exhaust joint sealant paste?

yeah dosent help at all its actually pulling itself out if you get my drift because its a sleeve fit it basically relies on the two puny wee clamps but there crap

and i cant find any heavier duty types to fit with the clearance beetween the two pipes into the y join think a few tak welds is gonna be the only way round it :)

I've never had any issues with these at all and I sell the same manifold and the Maniflow ones is pretty much the same too with the thin clamps but you can;t get much else around there.

I just use a smear of exhaust past, do the clamps up and thats it

Has the exhaust got a flexible piece at the end of the Y piece?

My mates car didnt have anything there, the exhaust was joined rigidly to the Y piece and it kept blowing. After I saw the flexible section that some of them have (similar to the standard 205 downpipe union) we bought something equivalent and its been fine since.

yeah its got a flexible pipe attached thats why i was wondering if anyone else had this problem,

its not like its just moving a small bit after a day of having it sorted it had moved back almost an inch of its origional position,

its a poweflow custom system and im starting to wonder if its anything todo with that iv bought an omp grp n exhaust so will try that see if it improves matters,

really hope it improves as it makes driving it really crap and slows it down far to much :)

my mates is a powerflow too.

his only moved a few mm, if yours has moved an inch then you probably just need better clamps.

I used a couple like this:
