fencer 0 Posted March 22, 2007 I just bought a phase 1.5 ash tray for my p1.5 205 but the colour of the grey is more into brown and looks horrible in my dash. The back of the ash is the normal p1.5 grey so I suppose its kind of faded, Does any one know if I can polish it or something to restore its original colour. ini 0 Posted March 22, 2007 You can use a spray-paint vinyl dye (Halfords etc) to match the dark grey of your interior, it will preserve the original texture. Not sure if the dark grey they have is an exact match, as i only ever use the black. Make sure the part is degreased properly, and use in a very well ventilated area as the dye is extremely toxic. Anton green 12 1 Cars Posted March 22, 2007 When my ash tray and surrounding plastics went brown I used a couple of handy wipes from kfc. Cleaned it up a treat. If you think the colour is smoke related, try it.

ini 0 Posted March 23, 2007 (edited) It is strange that the fading is brown, as grey interior parts will usually just get lighter in strong sunlight. Is it possible that the part was originaly beige, and has been coloured? The vinyl dye spray is a very good technique, it bonds to the surface of plastics leaving a layer a micron thick, and does not alter the original texture whatsoever. Alternatively 'Back to Black' or similar will make the part darker, or failing that shoe polish can be very effective. Edited March 23, 2007 by ini
