ross009 0 Posted March 21, 2007 gonna put a 1.9 engine well bottome end into my 1.6 in the next month o so was wondering weather i'd be able to fit arp rod bolts without changing anything else i/e new big ends etc? or is it not really worth doin if its a gd engine? wont be taking it past 7k(often) so..... any advice would be great cheers
James_m 0 Posted March 21, 2007 Not sure if there is any point of not, there is a bit of debate on if the rod bolts are a weak point or not. Personally on an 1.9 8v i would'nt bother. To do its not especially difficult, sump off, spacer plate off, oil pump will also need to be removed then you will be able to get to the big ends. I think it would be wise to change the bearings whilst you had the bearing caps off.
ross009 0 Posted March 21, 2007 oh rite cheers perhaps not worth doin then. would changing the bearings require some degree of running in then if i did that?
Radster 0 Posted March 21, 2007 Yes, there are threads on the best way to run in.
boldy205 75 Posted March 21, 2007 cant see a alot of point unless your overhauling the bottom end, even then on a std. engine its only peace of mind to know you have fitted uprated bolts. If it aint broke, dont fix it!
matty_gti 20 Posted March 22, 2007 I started a thread a while ago on OE bolts vs. ARP bolts. A few people had prods with the ARP bolts and some times they only fited them for piece of mind......in the end i went with OE ones from Peugeot. However i was doin (still am doing ) a rebuild.
