Jrod 7 Posted March 20, 2007 I'm looking at getting some helper springs for my coilovers, at the moment when Jacked up the spring dangles freely. Rather than wind it up for the MOT I'd rather do it the proper way (plus I've got to fit some eccentric top mounts anways so maswell do it.) On demontweeks they list loads of diff weights but do one thats only 4lb, Is it worth getting them and keeping my current springs or getting some higher lb and getting lower lb main springs? I don't want them to change the rideheight? Also can anyone recommend a place to get them other than demontweeks(rip-off merchants!)
Powers 13 Posted March 20, 2007 Try a 2" open length 10lb helper spring. It will effect your right height by the closed length of the helper spring so take this into account, i.e. lower your spring pan accordingly. Try Rallydesign, i bought mine from Demon Tweeks as i was in a hurry!
Jrod 7 Posted March 20, 2007 The spring pan is already as low as it will go. Shorter springs?
Powers 13 Posted March 20, 2007 Yes. What length are they now?
tom_m 0 Posted March 20, 2007 i'm running 4in 4lb helpers. compressed they add no more height than the spacers do, maybe 15-20mm. i got mine from theives
James_R 3 Posted March 20, 2007 as long as the springs re-locate when the car is lowered then it will pass.
Jrod 7 Posted March 21, 2007 Hmm it usually does but knowing my luck! I thing they are 8" 275lb atm... (where's Sam when you need him!? )
Sam 4 Posted March 21, 2007 They are SBC dual rate 240lb (and ??) not sure on length, maybe worth a call, they weren't cheap! Ideally you need the shorter Tarmac inserts but I never got round to buying them.
Jrod 7 Posted March 21, 2007 and they are 2.75 which demon tweeks don't list spring adapters for. Right forget that idea then.
SimonJ 2 Posted March 21, 2007 They are probably 70mm rather than 2.75" so look for adapters for that size?
tom_m 0 Posted March 21, 2007 as long as the springs re-locate when the car is lowered then it will pass. true, but on a coil over they won't

Jrod 7 Posted March 21, 2007 This is all a very steep learning curve.
tom_m 0 Posted March 21, 2007 just find a friendly MOT tester. The last MOT i had with coilovers and loose springs the work experience boy pointed out the loose springs and the tester said 'they're coilovers, they do that, don't worry'
SPGTi 2 Posted March 21, 2007 Try Faulkner springs direct. Same as what DEmon Tweeks sell but they will let you have them cheaper. Steve
