Movement In Front Drivers Wheel

Recommended Posts

Guest rich1977

right been getting funny sterring input on the mi for a few weeks now but not investigated due to it not running right now ive finally got it running how it should be I decided to look a little closer. bassicly if I grab the wheel and move it up and down it seems to move slightly causing steering wheel to move aswell now i jacked the car up and checked everything and couldnt find any problems so droped it down again and as soon as theres wieght on it same thing happens, its like the whole hub assembly moves back and forward slightly but the noise it makes seems to come from the towards the top of the strut not the wishbone :D plush it only does it when wheels are dead straight not if any lock is aplied

so is this likely to be buggered wishbone or something else?

Three possible causes imo,

  • Balljoint, a new wishbone is needed. (Although you shuld be able to find this play with it jacked)
    Or
  • The hub has an oval balljoint hole, new hub is needed.
    Or
  • The bolt through the hub for the balljoint has worn allowing movement, new shouldered bolt needed.

You should be able to test the first & third one's with the car on the wheels by laying down & trying to move the wishbone & seeing where the play is (if its either of these causes).

Get a new bush kit from peugeot if the balljoint is good.

Costs £15 = vat for a set which has enough bushes for both wishbones & new bolts as well. Part number is 3599.07.
