309PUG 2 1 Cars Posted March 18, 2007 (edited) Had a full day testing Saturday after just getting the car (8V) mapped Friday, however had a few issues with the catch tank, it simply filled up after only 5 laps and pis$ed the surplus out of the breather filter all over the raight hand side of the engine bay. Thanks to a few other forum members who came along we tried alternative plumbing and finally got it sussed. In my wisdom I had originally fed a pipe from the top oil filler neck (crank breather)to the catch tank and another from the cam cover to the catch tank, WRONG. Finally ended up with the cam cover pipe reverting back to OE position ('T' piece joining oil filler pipe low down near sump) and the other as before from the top oil filler neck to the catch tank. Now works a treat. Would be interested to hear how other people have there breather systems on an 8v ?? Thanks to Henry Yorke for the out / in car video footage, plus the input of all the other guys. Richie-Van-GTi 74 2 Cars Posted March 19, 2007 |I have cam cover to T piece at the bottom of oil filler neck, one breather pipe off the cap to the catchtank and tyhe other pipe on the cap going back into the filler neck where on a standard 8v it goes back down to blck, Im using a 2.0 bottomend which only has one accesspoint on the block so had to do it this way. Seems fine so far but havent had chance to put it under load properly yet.

We tried virtually the same set up as you and it made no difference, ie pipe from cam cover to top of oil filler and the other pipe from the top of the oil filler going to the catch tank. Under a lot of load it still filled the catch tank in a handfull of laps. Conlusion is the cam cover pipe has to feed back a bit lower than the filler neck.
