Brake Pads For A Road Going Gti6

Recommended Posts

mos

hi,

can anyone recommend a brake pad for gti6 front calipers and 1.9 rears for that matter that give good brake feel even from cold but produce miminal brake dust.

they need to be a good all round pad, but as they are unlikely to see track use they dont have to be massively resistant to fade just good enough for fast road use.

currently on one of my 205s that already has gti6 brakes i am running brakeparts supplied pads and discs at the front and rear but the wheels get covered in brake dust really quickly which is annoying and i am sick of cleaning the wheels.

i remember years ago EBC selling pads off the back of them being really low in dust but i have read good and bad opinions on these. others that may do the trick that spring to mind are ferrodo, mintex & pagid etc but i dont what model of pad to go for.

anyone any recommendations

would these pads be ok to use with standard discs or would i be better off getting the corrosponding discs as the pads would be too abrasive for standard discs and kill them in no time

thanks

mark

EBC Green (or maybe Red) should be fine and produce very little brake dust compared with standard pads. Greens aren't much harder than std and won't wear your discs much quicker

i've been through several sets of Greenstuffs and haven't had any of the problems that people describe. i dare say someone will be along to suggest that you'd be better off using Weetabix or something though

they've been good pads ime; cheap too

i'm using greenstuffs on my car and i have to say...theyre not all bad. Reasonably priced, good stopping power and they have a slightly larger friction area than the OE pads that i took off. But if you hear anyone say they dont produce ANY brake dust then call them a liar and walk away they still produce a ton of dust on my car. Mintex 1144's are really good pads but will produce a lot of dust as far as i know. I dont think you will get red stuffs hot enough on the road to realise their full braking potential (depending on how you drive  ) i'm sticking with greenstuffs as my pad of choice, it's down to you mate.

i think whatever happens, if you go for uprated pads, you'll get more brake dust than with standard ones. its down to the calipers me thinks...

you certainly get alot less dust from Greenstuffs. i don't think anyone would suggest you'd not get any though!

i used Greens on the front of mine and std pads on the rear - the rears produced alot more dust than the fronts which, when you consider that the rears do next to nothing compared to the fronts, says something about how little dust they generate in comparison.

.

sticky calipers will lead to uneven pad wear and generate more dust.

Both Ferodo DS2500 and Mintex 1144 are great pads and still work ok from cold. They also dont fall apart like some.
