Rob Thomson 6 Posted March 18, 2007 My Ph.2 1.6 has an intermittent problem with its central locking. Sometimes it almost instantly unlocks itself after being locked. Cycling the system a few times will usually get it to lock and stay locked, but not always. It doesn't matter whether the car is locked with the key or the alarm fob (I don't have the original Pug fob). I've just read through all the CL topics and couldn't find anything relevent. Any ideas? Thanks.
sonofsam 5 Posted March 18, 2007 Thats a weird one,. at a guess maybe some of the C/L loom wires have stripped and are shorting out? or even a break somewhere. I suppose the only way tell for sure, would be to replace the C/L loom fully
M@tt 77 Posted March 18, 2007 Is ph2 CL via a fob or by turning the key in the door? Could it be a sticking lock mechanism? im fairly sure if it can't lock itself properly it undoes itself ie goes down then up. Like when you pull the drivers button up from inside it will unlock all the other doors. might be worthwhile whipping out the door mechanisms and giving them a good greasing up as well as the linkages. I'd prehaps check the drivers door mechanism first. just and idea
brianthemagical 1 Posted March 18, 2007 ever tried to lock central locking on a modern vehicle with one door open, or lock a drivers door when it's open? it won't happen. my guess is theres a problem with one of the locks, not engaging properly or worn so it's telling the c/l it's still open. or it could be dicky electronics. my cat one will sometimes arm but mnot lock the doors. hope that helps. Rob Thomson 6 Posted March 18, 2007 Thats a weird one,. at a guess maybe some of the C/L loom wires have stripped and are shorting out? To be fair, the wiring on this car is s*it. Sooner or later it's going to get a replacement loom for the whole thing. But I don't think this is wiring, I reckon it's either the master solenoid, the relay (if there is one) or something to do with the after-market alarm... Is ph2 CL via a fob or by turning the key in the door? Mine works from the lock and from the fob for the alarm. I think it originally had the standard infra-red fob, but I haven't got those. I think I'll pull it all apart and give everything a good clean and lube. Luckily I don't often leave it parked anywhere dodgy, but you can guarantee that the first time I want to leave it anywhere vulnerable the bloody thing won't lock. Obviously I can disconnect the battery and lock each door manually but that's a pain in the arse. Thanks for the ideas so far. Any more?!!
d-9 0 Posted March 18, 2007 If it had the original IR central locking (look for the IR rxver next to the map light) then it will have a relay box bolted to the steering column. No idea if they fail thou. Easiest way to disable the CL is to pull the fuse. Forget which one it is but 90% sure theres a fuse specifically for the CL on the 205. and ive got a spare master solnoid on the bench at the mo if you need one. ini 0 Posted March 18, 2007 Sounds like a stiff/bent linkage or lock mechanism on one of the central locking motors, or a kink in the long rod to the interior door pull (most likely drivers door). It only requires a small amount of upward pressure on the linkage to the motor for the car to unlock itself again. Could also be a dodgy relay in the control box (behind dash near drivers left knee)
GLPoomobile 958 Posted March 18, 2007 Rob, mine started doing this too recently. Only happened about 2 or 3 times so far. I haven't looked in to it as electrics scare me, and I figured it could be a problem with the alarm (it would be sods law, something else to confuse the equation!). However, it has just occurred to me that it's only been doing it since I replaced the drivers door, and I although I swapped the motor over (cos the one in the new door was shagged), it seems like too much of a coincidence, so I'll have to check the loom in the door, maybe swap the motor, and check the lock mechanisms are free etc.
pug309twin40s 1 Posted March 19, 2007 it will either be a central locking actuator playing up or a door locking rod/ pin at top catching somewhere.
